Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest begins Saturday, January 21

The 16-week Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest begins this Saturday with 14 races from Fair Grounds in New Orleans. R2K has been an annual staple of winters in the Canterbury Racebook since originating in 1998. While formats, prizes and scoring have changed over the years, the consistency has not. The contest features the best Kentucky Derby prep races each Saturday through the Kentucky Derby, awarding top-scoring players each week and overall point accumulators with cash prizes.

Points are based on parimutuel payouts for each contest race. Complete rules can be found here along with the schedule.

All 14 races will be used with the Lecomte, race 14, being the Double Point Bonus Derby prep race. Lots of local flavor in New Orleans on Saturday!  Don’t miss out on Zozos, owned by the Butzows of Eden Prairie, in the Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes and Minnesota-bred Charlie’s Penny owned by Robert Lothenbach in the $100,000 Marie Krantz Memorial. Contest entry deadline is noon.

Players confident their Road to Kentucky abilities can back up that opinion in the Bet On Yourself in R2K Contest each week. Bet On Yourself in R2K is a series of single-day contests beginning Saturday where players submit a $10 entry fee and compete for a prize pool consisting of all entry fees collected on the day of each contest with the winner being determined by the highest score recorded by an entrant in that day’s Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest .

Of the players entered each date, the entire pool of entry fees collected that day will be paid as the prize pool to the entrant with the highest score. The winner also receives one 2023 Handicapper of the Year point.
