Win Willy Draws Post Nine In Arkansas Derby

Post positions were drawn on Wednesday at Oaklawn Park for the $1,000,000 Arkansas Derby. A field of ten, including Jer-Mar Stable’s Win Willy, will line up Saturday at 5:41 pm for the 1 1/8 mile test.

Trainer Mac Robertson has maintained over the past two weeks that if Win Willy, an upset winner of The Rebel, runs in the top two in the Arkansas Derby he would take the colt to Churchill for the Kentucky Derby.

Win Willy broke his maiden at Canterbury Park at first asking in August of 2008. Owner Jerry Myers remains realistic about the Kentucky Derby. “The horse and Mac will decide if we run, not me,” he said.

Jerry and Mac have enjoyed success at Canterbury for years. A Kentucky Derby appearance for Robertson would get him the recognition as a horseman that he truly deserves, but those of us that have watched him at his craft know that he won’t be in Louisville on the first Saturday in May unless he believes he has a shot.

Mac participated in an NTRA Teleconference earlier in the week. Read the transcript or listen to the podcast here.
