V Os Filo won the $29,500 Bob Morehouse Memorial Stakes Sunday at Canterbury Park. Jockey Nik Goodwin was aboard for owner Rodney Von Ohlen and trainer Ed Ross Hardy. V Os Filo covered the 400 yards in 20.752 seconds, defeating stablemate Dashin Tee by 1 and ¾ lengths. Little Bit Brandy, finished third.
“He jumped out of there pretty good,” Goodwin said. “I knew when he broke like that he would be very tough to beat.”
V Os Filo, bred in Minnesota by his owner, has now won two of seven starts and $34,910. The Morehouse Stakes was restricted to quarter horses bred in the state or owned by Minnesota residents.
“I can’t believe we won this,” Von Ohlen said. “We worked hard on him for a long time. There was always something just a little wrong. Finally it all came together.”
The race, in its 17th edition, is named for the late Bob Morehouse, a Canterbury Park Hall of Fame breeder.
