The 2023 Canterbury Park meet came to an end Saturday night. There were just over 700 horses on grounds last week with vans leaving daily. The exodus continued in earnest on Sunday and by week’s end the once-bustling backstretch will be a relative ghost town until next spring. Some horses will be turned out and others will continue to race throughout the fall. Uncertainty surrounded the start of Turf Paradise, the winter home of many connections, and yesterday’s dire news that a potential sale fell through makes a season seem even more doubtful. The regular inhabitants of the Phoenix racetrack must find a new place to race. Betty Jo Goodwin visited with a few trainers as they set their Fall plans in motion.
