Canterbury Park’s 51-day horse racing season began May 23 with weekend programs and large crowds. This week Thursday racing returns to the schedule with a 5:10 p.m. first post. With Americans currently being more cost conscious, Canterbury announced $2 Buck Thursdays to attract those seeking greater value. Admission is $2 plus tax, with children five and younger always admitted free. Hormel hot dogs, Pepsi products and 12 oz. cans of Budweiser are $2. Parking remains free all days.

“Canterbury Park has always been known as a great value compared to other sporting events in the Twin Cities,” VP of Marketing Jennifer Lauerman said. “Last summer we experimented with a few

discounted weeknights and received very positive feedback, so this season we will offer $2 Buck Thursdays all summer, extending this great value.”

The Shakopee, MN racetrack, now running its 32nd consecutive season, expects the Thursday promotion to appeal to a younger demographic. Between races a DJ will entertain fans near the winner’s circle.

“This will be an opportunity to introduce people to our racetrack and casino that may never have been here before,” Lauerman said. “It’s the same exciting racing experience and fun at a reduced price.”

Gates open each Thursday at 4 p.m. The season runs through Sept. 19. For more information and tickets go here.
