The Glitter Star Stakes Belongs to Ready to Runaway for the Third Time

Ready to Runaway raced unchallenged gate to wire as her three challengers could do nothing but trail far behind in the $50,000 Glitter Star Stakes Wednesday. The 2020 Horse of the Meet was the 1 to 5 favorite. This was the third consecutive win in the Glitter Star for the 5-year-old mare. She is owned by John Mentz of Lakeville and trained by Mac Robertson. Roimes Chirinos was aboard the winner who paid $2.40.

Mentz claimed Ready to Runaway as a 3-year-old for $25,000 and since she has won ten races including seven stakes, and $420,185 in purses for the Lakeville owner.

“This has been the most miraculous investment I’ve ever made,” said Mentz, who now has eight

wins at the meet, all with Robertson. “Mac’s great with the horses. He knows where to put them. He knows what he’s doing. He has my utmost trust.”

Also Wednesday was the $50,000 Wally’s Choice Stakes where jockey Ruben Fuentes used an off-the-pace, rail skimming ride aboard Zoe’s Delight to win for trainer Tony Rengstorf and owner Winchester Place Thoroughbred, LLC. Cinco Star and Drop of Golden Sun did the dirty work on the lead, while it was Zoe’s Delight who got the best of it.

“I let them do their thing and sat there comfortably saving ground,” Fuentes said. “I was just expecting them to fall back and that’s what happened.” Zoe’s Delight won by 3/4 length over Cinco Star and paid $20.20 as the longest price in the field of five.

“Ruben gave my horse a fabulous ride,” said Lorie Michaels of Winchester Place. “Tony’s just done a marvelous job with the horses. We’re very, very happy to win one.”
