The Frances Genter Stakes and Victor S. Myers Stakes, traditional preps for the richer Minnesota Oaks and Minnesota Derby, will be conducted Sunday. Both six furlong races for 3-year-old Minnesota breds offer $51,500 purses. Summer Winner and How Bout That Curt, winners of last season’s premiere 2-year-old races, the Northern Lights Debutante and Futurity, are entered to run and both are favored on Sunday.
Summer Winner won three of four starts at Canterbury last year. She made her 2026 debut in the Goldfinch at Prairie Meadows, finishing sixth then ran second by a length facing open company in an optional claimer at Canterbury. With a morning line of 2 to 1 in the Genter, Summer Winner is owned by Pete Mattson, who Friday was inducted in the track’s Hall of Fame, and her trainer Tim Padilla. Alonso Quinonez has ridden the filly in all seven career starts and will be aboard Sunday.
Heavenly Captive has top jockey Manuel Americano riding for trainer Mac Robertson and owner John Mentz. She was well beaten by Summer Winner in the Debutante last year but is two for three in her 3-year-old campaign while facing state breds.
Flatter Me Billy is 12 to 1 on the morning line. She was beaten three times last year by Summer Winner, never getting closer than 4 3/4 lengths but in 2026 has won two of three starts running on the turf and facing open company. Constantino Roman will be aboard for trainer Stacey Rushton.
The Victor S. Myers will have a field of five. How Bout That Curt has run five times since the Northern Lights victory but has not finished better than fourth. He will return to state bred company in
the Myers for owner Sampson Racing Stables LLC. Navarre is a logical challenger who will face How Bout That Curt for the third time in his career. Last year he was no match for the Sampson owned gelding but most recently in a one mile race Navarre finished ahead of How Bout That Curt. The remainder of the field includes Benz Lake Echo, Perfect Gamble, and That Type Ofa Deal.
Sunday’s seven-race program begins at 1 p.m.
