San Vicente Field Includes Mr. Jagermeister

The $200,000 Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday drew six entries including Minnesota-bred Mr. Jagermeister trained by Valorie Lund.

Post time for the 7-furlong sprint is set for 4:30 p.m. central.

Mr. Jagermeister, who will be ridden by Geovanni Franco, will start from post two just outside 6 to 5 morning line favorite Ax Man, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Drayden Van Dyke.

Ax Man sports the highest Beyer Speed Figure in the field, a 97, which is also one of the highest figs earned by a 3-year-old this year. He earned that in his only start, a 9 ½ length cruise in a field of 10 at Santa Anita on January 1.

Mr. Jagermeister’s best Beyer is a 90 earned at Canterbury in the Shakopee Juvenile where he lost to Amy’s Challenge by ¾ of a length. That race was mid-September so with maturity over the winter he could be expected to run an elevated number. His series of six workouts at Turf Paradise suggest he is ready. The morning line maker has listed the son of Atta Boy Roy at 6 to 1.

All Out Blitz, who has post 4, earned a 91 in his second place finish in the Grade 3 Sham, a two-turn mile.

Amy’s Challenge, the 2017 Canterbury Park Horse of the Year, was not entered in Saturday’s Martha Washington as trainer Mac Robertson indicated last month. The 3-year-old filly won the Dixie Belle sprint stakes at Oaklawn on January 20 and is expected to start next on March 10 in the Grade 3 Honeybee at 1 1/116 miles.
