He’s done it all: trainer, jockey agent, gate crew, and now owner. Nick Raver got started with racing in 1999 in Nebraska. After performing the duties for various racetrack duties, Raver decided to exclusively own horses with his father, Ron Raver, as they teamed up with trainer, Nevada Litfin.
Raver’s first horse ran in Iowa with Litfin, but they soon made their way to Canterbury. “I started claiming horses out of Nebraska like Super Charlie and Nic A Jack, and they came up here on the turf and they just exploded,” Raver said. Nick currently has 10 horses at Canterbury, all with Litfin.
“One of my favorite memories was about two years ago when Dontrattlemycage and Nic A Jack ran first and second in an allowance race here at Canterbury.”
Earlier this year Raver started claiming horses at Oaklawn. He is excited to have better stock now and ready to see what they can do during the meet.
When Raver isn’t spending his time studying racing and doing what he can to better himself as an owner, he stays busy at his home in Mead, Nebraska with his two children. He also serves as the Fire Chief and the Maintenance Supervisor of the town.
