Canterbury Applies for 2008 Race Dates

Expect a live racing calendar in 2008 that is similar to this past season. Canterbury Park has requested approval of the Minnesota Racing Commission for a 67-day race meet beginning on May 3 and ending on September 1, 2008. Post times on Thursdays and Fridays would remain at 7:00pm while Saturday and Sunday post times would be 1:30pm. The Saturday post time would be a change from 2007 when racing commenced at 4:00pm.
Eikleberry in Turf Paradise spill
Jockey Ry Eikleberry was involved in a spill in the ninth race at Turf Paradise on Friday. He escaped the incident with bumps and bruises and is expected to return to the saddle in a couple of days. “He had x-rays and an MRI and is okay,” said his father Kevin Eikleberry. “It’s good to be young and athletic.” Ry is currently leading the quarter horse rider standings at the Phoenix track with a record of six wins, five seconds, and 3 thirds from 26 mounts. He is third in the thoroughbred standings with 16 wins from 120 mounts.

Jockey Lori Keith, who suffered a broken wrist in a riding accident in September, is expected to return to race riding in Chicago in two to three weeks…trainer Jamie Ness is currently third in the trainer standings at Hawthorne. Winning at a 26% clip, he has made 13 trips to the winners’ circle. Expect to find Ness at Tampa Bay Downs in December where he will defend his training title…… jockeys Jenna Joubert and Jennifer Schmidt participated in the annual Hoosier Park Ladies Night on Saturday.jm
