Alotta Oh La La was the fastest qualifier from three trial heats for $105,100 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity on Wednesday. The 2-year-old filly, pictured above, was ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer Malory Norton and owner Leon Glasser. Norton also qualified Hot Politician Z. Jason Olmstead qualified for of the 10 finalists.
The fastest qualifier for the $68,175 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby was Apolitical Sass. The 3-year-old filly is trained by leading trainer Olmstead and was ridden by Luis Valenzuela for owner Thomas Scheckel. Olmstead qualified six of the 10 for the final. Norton trained the second and third fastest qualifiers.
The finals for both the Northlands and the Derby will be Aug. 10.
Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby Results
The winner of Wednesday’s sixth race, a thoroughbred sprint, Just Ask Joel, paid $162.00 for a $2 win wager, the largest win payout in the history of Canterbury Park or Canterbury Downs. The 5-year-old gelding was ridden by Ezequiel Lara for trainer Joe Blair Roberts. The previous largest win payout was $161.00 on July 2, 2015.
