Jess Rocket Man cruises in $38,500 Cash Caravan Stakes

Jess Rocket Man easily won Thursday’s $38,500 Cash Caravan Stakes at Canterbury Park, covering 440 yards in stakes record time of 21.678 seconds and finishing 1 1/4  lengths better than second-place Trippin Guns. The winner, paying $2.10 as the prohibitive favorite, is owned and was bred by Bruce and Judy Lunderborg who race as Lunderborg LLC. Edwin Escobedo rode 4-year-old Jess Rocket Man for trainer Jason Olmstead.

The Lunderborgs of Gibbon, Minn. have been the owners of the Cash Caravan winner each of the past five years, all with home-bred full brothers. Dickey Bob, seven, won the stake in 2018, 2020 and 2021 when the race was run at 400 yards and Pyc Jess Bite Mydust won the race in 2019 as a 5-year-old. Olmstead, Canterbury’s top quarter horse trainer for the past seven seasons, was the trainer each time. Jess Rocket Man, Dickey Bob and Pyc Jess Bite My Dust are all by sire Apollitical Jess out of the mare Paint Or More.

Olmstead scratched Dickey Bob and Averys Rocket, also a full brother to the winner, from the race. The scratches left the stake with a field of four. Myownersbroke finished third in front of Holy Storm.
