Race 1: TOIL AND TROUBLE was reclaimed by Diodoro after losing him in career debut. Has the highest speed figure in the race and is only a 3-year-old. CHARITY FOR ALL challenged between horses for the lead in his last before tiring. If he gets an easy lead, he might get brave. GRAVES MILL ROAD takes a big class drop but has no speed and has passed very few horses in his six starts.
Race 2: TWIRLING ROSES has early speed and is impeccably bred for the surface and distance. Didn’t show much when trying grass in career debut but has been slowly improving since. TEQUILA TIME has speed and the rail but needs to use that speed early. OSWALD COBBLEPOT ran a nice race in debut at this distance while breaking awkwardly from the rail. May appreciate returning to a sprint.
Race 3: DROP OF GOLDEN SUN is a gelding that obviously loves to compete at Canterbury. Third off the layoff for Rengstorf and should be sitting just off the early speed. MR. JAGERMEISTER is the probable favorite off his dominating win in the 10,000 Lakes, but this is not his ideal distance. If get gets loose and comfortable, may repeat his last effort. DAME PLATA is also third off the layoff and his versatile running style will be beneficial.
Race 4: FULLBRIDLEDPHANTOM could be prominent early in a race void of early speed. First start for Cappellucci, who wins at 25% with horses new to his barn. YEAH YEAH didn’t show a lot of interest in seasonal debut but hoping that race provided the foundation for an improved effort. GLACKEN’S GHOST is a hard-knocking eight-year-old that delivers a winning effort every now and then but hard to predict when it’s going to happen.
Race 5: SORRISO beat a few of these easily last race, and Silva is 41% returning off a win. Could go back-to-back. NICE WORK comes off a turf sprint last race where he encountered traffic problems. Return to the dirt and gets the rail. FAIR CHALLENGE ran a competitive race last out at Churchill after battling for the lead. A similar effort could be enough.
Race 6: RENTAL POOL looks like the only speed in the race and ran a nice race off the shelf on opening night. May be able to last a little longer this time out. EBONY BAY is well bred for the turf but had her first try last race and ran well. Could improve having that one turf start under her belt. SHE B GLAMOROUS likes the Canterbury lawn but historically has not fired first off the layoff.
Race 7: PRINCE RAMA broke his maiden by 12 lengths last summer then caught an off-track in a stakes race. The prep race at Will Rodgers should have shaken off the rust. MAGICIAN’S HOLIDAY ran off the screen on an off-track to break his maiden last out. A repeat of that performance puts him in the mix. LIL’ NINJA had two preps at Tampa and might be the only one closing at the end.
Race 8: GRAB THE MUNNY has the right running style in a race full of early speed. Has four wins at the distance and will be flying late. CHESS MASTER was claimed four back by Raven and didn’t miss a beat, winning twice for the new connections. Returns to a more comfortable class level after facing Grade 2 types last out. WEEKEND RIDE tries turf for the first time but is bred for it. Faces a tough field for his comeback race.
