Race 1: ANGEL’S MAGIC is bred to be precocious as her sibling won first out at Canterbury by 13 lengths last summer. Steady works and top connections only add to her appeal. MINKOTA JOY debuts for Rengstorf who has been winning at 32% the last two weeks and who’s first-time-starter’s win at an 18% rate. SILENT SAILOR gets the tough rail draw for this distance but sire has produced some nice runners.
Race 2: CANDY COVE returns to his preferred surface after three turf tries and a race on a sloppy track. Should navigate a nice trip right behind the speed and wear down the front runners in the stretch. PROMISING SHOES is a grizzled veteran who likes to win visiting the winners circle eleven times. Appears there is enough early speed to setup his late kick. UNLEASH THE BEAST enjoys Canterbury with six wins here but prefers to be loose on the lead and that could be difficult today.
Race 3: OVERSEAS LETTER has a nice set of workouts for his first career start including a bullet from the gate on June 2nd. Berndt wins at 23% with newbies. NU NU gets the difficult outside post in this really short race but has had two siblings win first-out from eight starters. SHAQ’S MY DADDY has the rail so needs to break alertly. Sire has produced some nice dirt sprinters.
Race 4: FALLEN EMPIRE stretches out after starting his career with three sprints. Has tactical speed and his breeding screams, the farther the better. WELL READ had an eventful trip in last as he was about to take the lead in the stretch before ducking in sharply and unseating Canchari. Hopefully, Robertson has figured out his quirks. FLIMFLAM MAN returns to the dirt after a nice run against softer last time out.
Race 5: NICE WORK drops to a more realistic level after breaking slowly from the rail in his most recent. Has had the propensity of leaving the gate tardily but if he can break alertly today, he could be dangerous. FLASH ATTACK is the probable favorite and shows up at the lowest claiming price he’s ever raced. Diodoro may be looking for a victory here with the drop. TICK TACK MO has been on a nice roll lately winning four-of-six but one of those wins came at Mile City.
Race 6: SHE’S XTREMELY HOT has had a history of breaking slowly and that was the case last time out when she was unprepared at the start, however, she was striding out nicely in the lane at the finish. Gets added distance today. PAYNTER’S LOVE has a lot of positives going for her. First-time Diodoro, first-time at Canterbury after trying Santa Anita and first-time turf which she should love. MISCHIEF MAMA is bred to like the surface but needs to improve quite a bit.
Race 7: THIRTYMINUTEMASS ran huge in last battling between two horses early and digging in to try to hold off the closers late, only to get nipped at the wire. Claimed by Cappellucci out of that race. JEWEL AZUL has a tough post but comes out of a key race with two next-out winners. Broberg wins at 31% when dropping half in claiming price. HOLY MUCHACHO drops to the level where he was claimed two back and will be closing late if the pace is hot.
Race 8: SAILING ALONG has had wide trips from outside posts in two local starts. The jockey change might have her closer to the front today. MADISONIAN tries to regain that sensational maiden breaking form from last summer. Showed speed going long on the turf in last and shortens up today on dirt. MIDNIGHT CURRENT regained her form in her last race after spinning her wheels in the slop in seasonal debut.
Race 9: BRING BACK MY VODKA debuted at Remington and split the field. Expecting better effort today for the Escobedo/Olmstead combination. MAKIN DRAMA showed some ability in first local start but gets tough rail draw today. RUNAMOK has struggled in first two starts of his career but I’ll give top trainer Hardy another chance.
Race 10: LADY CAPO is the tepid pick in this wide-open race. Comes off her seasonal debut which had two next-out winners in front of her. Should improve in her second start as a three-year-old. MOONIN THE CLASS is third off the layoff, had advantageous outside post and top connections. PAPPY BOYINGTON moves off the rail and his speed figures are comparable to the rest.
