Race 1: CHARITY FOR ALL dueled with the eventual winner through fairly quick fractions last time before tiring. Third off the layoff, drops in class and should be loose today. OWN THE TOWN had the perfect pace setup last race and still couldn’t make up any ground in the stretch but has only raced five times so still could improve. REDOUX stumbled at the start last out and loss all chance. May be part of the mix with a clean break.
Race 2: MISTER NOT FUNNY has had two competitive races in his two local starts this year. Was bumped early and rallied two back and showed speed in last, so has some fight in him. Breeding points to turf. J J’S CROWN has been claimed away in last two from some good barns. Speed figures have been solid and his prior turf races fit. OLD INDIAN TRICK joins the Diodoro barn with good speed figures but hasn’t visited the winners circle since 2018.
Race 3: JERRYS PRIDENJOY should use speed and natural quickness to control the pace. If allowed to slow them down early, he’ll have plenty in the tank late. OMEN OF CHANGE raced against some tough claimers at Oaklawn this spring. Joins the Broberg barn and could improve with second start of the meet. CALCULATED RISKER didn’t take to the turf last time out but returns to the dirt today and drops in class.
Race 4: MINNESOTA MIRACLE is third off the layoff and returns to preferred surface. Is 3-for-4 on the Canterbury lawn and should be able to sit right behind the speed and power away in the lane. DOODLE TIME has posted some nice speed figures on the grass but only has one victory to show for his efforts. FULLBRIDLEDPHANTOM freaked on the sod last out and a repeat effort puts him in the mix.
Race 5: BLUE BLAZES WHO was involved in a donnybrook on the front-end last time out establishing blistering early fractions. That speed and one less furlong could be the key. FUNNY FLOWERS has won or placed in four of 10 dirt starts, but four of his last five starts have been on the turf. Returns to preferred footing. TWILIGHT GALAXY cuts back in distance from last after closing in a sprint for the win two back.
Race 6: FEEDING FRENZY was parked three-wide the entire race after battling for the lead. Tired late but guessing he got a lot out of the race and will improve drastically in second local try. GUN WAR came out of the 10 hole against many of these in last and had it tough early after being checked. Could see improvement with better trip. DARK SOLUTION is royally bred for the turf and should be happy trying two turns.
Race 7: VALIANT APPEAL has been in good form dominating three races at Sam Houston before heading north. Claimed by Cappellucci last out and he wins 36% after the claim. TABIA returns to Canterbury, where he crossed the wire first three times last summer. Has a nice three-month freshening and Berndt does well with that type of break. FAIR CHALLENGE has his third start for the Diodoro barn and adds blinkers. May be more focused on the task at hand.
Race 8: SCENT OF SUCCESS put it all together in three-year-old debut and dominated her overmatched foes. Robertson entrants usually improve second time out. LET’S SKEDADDLE is the likely favorite off her easy victory in last. Has consistently posted high speed figures but not sure there is a lot of upside. DREAMING BIZ came off the bench to close late last time. If the speed collapses, she’ll be flying late.
Race 9: DETERMINED TO RISE has speed and if he can repeat his most recent outing, he’ll be tough to beat. Having a leading trainer saddle this one adds to the appeal. GUEST CHECK is a first-time starter for Lund who sent out a first-time winner the other day. The bullet work on May 24 indicates readiness. YESTERYEAR has some talent but has had seven opportunities and is five years old so not a lot of room for improvement.
