Race 1: JEWEL AZUL was claimed three back by Broberg, who is one of the best claiming trainers in the game. Returns to the level where she was claimed and also returns to two turns. CSILLA was cashing checks at Tampa Bay recently and has tactical speed to stalk and pounce. ULTRA CORDIAL raced well at Fonner this spring, but Fonner shippers have been struggling to start the meet.
Race 2: MINNESOTA LUCKY has early speed and drops to his career- low claiming level. Has had outside posts in the past three and drew the rail today. LIFELINE returns to the dirt after trying the turf in his introduction to Canterbury. Silva is always dangerous with this type. BURGAMEISTER hits the board often but hasn’t visited the winners circle much lately.
Race 3: SHE’S FIRE AND ICE returns to her preferred surface after racing on the dirt or off track in the previous six. Has only had one bad race on the turf in eight career starts. Should see considerable improvement. GIVEITSOMEWELLIE lost a tough one last out on a turf course that was favoring speed. A fairer course today will benefit her style. TEQUILA MARY drops in class and has won $128K in her career on the lawn.
Race 4: VISUAL MAGIC showed speed on the turf in last and turns back in distance while returning to the dirt. Could be the recipe for a victory at a price. LA ROSA DRIVE has been a road warrior lately racing at six different tracks in the past six months. Will be competitive today. ELEGANT CRICKET recently claimed by Cappellucci, who wins at 40% off such move and adds Lasix today.
Race 5: FEEDING FRENZY has faced open company at Gulfstream and Keeneland and now drops into a race restricted to Minnesota breds. Has tactical speed and is bred to run forever on the turf. LORING PARK may be the top pick’s main rival and they might be next door neighbors in the Berndt barn. Will be flying late. BUBBA BOB comes off a layoff but ran nicely last year on the Canterbury lawn. Might need a prep race.
Race 6: SHABAM was stuck wide the entire race last time out and was still running hard at the end. Claimed by Robertson and he wheels her back on two weeks rest. WILLING TO BURN beat the top pick last race but had a perfect trip on the rail. Hard to imagine that happening again. FALL MOON delivered some nice efforts while at Tampa Bay but is dependent on a fast pace.
Race 7: GHOST OF GENEVIEVE has the speed to clear this field and may not stop. The drop in class and a recent race under her belt also help. SURELY A LEGEND has shown little in her four career starts but takes a major class drop, which should provide some relief. WARREN’S WISH has yet to show the ability of big brother Hot Shot Kid, but maybe she needed the winter to mature.
Race 8: SIERRA HOTEL really enjoyed the Canterbury turf last summer and takes a needed drop in class. Expect the Broberg trainee to be prominent early. GEAUXCRO returns to his favorite distance and surface but has really been off form lately on the dirt. SAMURAI MIKE is the “other” Broberg and gets back on the lawn. Will need to work out a clean trip while breaking from the rail.
