Race 1: PRINCE RAMA is third off the layoff for high percentage Bravo. Stretches out for the first time, which should put him on or near the lead. The only time he was loose on the lead, he won by 12. FINN COUNTRY has consistently posted higher speed figures than anyone else in this field. SILVER DASH returned in seasonal debut with a nice closing third against open company.
Race 2: SHINNY is on a roll for Diodoro, having won five races in 2021 including two at Canterbury. Won easier than it looked last time out, only running at the end after being blocked in the stretch. FULLBRIDLEDPHANTOM exploded down the lane in his last race on the turf in his first start for Cappellucci. Moves up in class. HAWKWOOD ran a nice race on the Canterbury lawn last summer but has struggled to regain his form this year.
Race 3: WRANGLERED raced against many next-out-winners this spring at Will Rodgers. Gets the rail and will be able to utilize his tactical speed to work out a good trip. TOIL AND TROUBLE will try to use his early speed to shake loose but races against tougher here after breaking maiden in last. PUBLIC SAFETY is third off the layoff but is in need of a quick pace for his late closing style.
Race 4: JOYFUL CANDY was pinched back to last in career debut but kept running. The winner won by 13 so he was competitive with the rest. Guessing he’ll show improvement in his second start. TOUR THE WORLD posted some nice speed figures on the turf this winter at the Fair Grounds. Coming off a three-month layoff and first-time with Lund. OXWOOD appears to be controlling speed after getting the lead against better in January.
Race 5: PIONEER SPIRIT has back class, having banked $893K in his career. Draw a line through the last two as they were on slop and turf. Should sit behind the speed and pick up the pieces. DROP OF GOLDEN SUN loves Canterbury but does his best running when he gets the lead, unlikely today. DAME PLATA should be relaxed toward the rear and come late.
Race 6: WILLTOBELUCKY stumbled and was bumped at the start in his last race. Takes a needed drop in class and is well bred for turf. JOHAN ZOFFANI just broke his maiden at Golden Gate and transfers to the Diodoro barn, which is a 23% move. CZECHMIGHT is another that joins the Diodoro barn for the first time. Showed early speed in Southern California.
Race 7: ZORICH returns to the dirt after an unsuccessful try on the lawn. His last dirt attempt was an easy victory and he’ll try to replicate that race. J P’S PRIDE has question marks as he comes back from a year-and-a-half hiatus. Before the break, he was posting high speed figures on the dirt but it may be difficult to return to that form in first start back. TEQUILA BLANCO won as easy as you can two back against softer but is facing tougher today for high percentage barn.
Race 8: JO DEE’S ANGEL has won four-of-five at this specialty distance and has tactical speed to be involved early. Tracy trainees excel on the turf and in turf sprints. PLANE TALK possesses an abundance of early speed and will try to out break the field from an outside post. EL TIZAR caught a favorable pace for his closing kick last time and loves the Canterbury turf.
