Frosty View steals away in Brooks Fields Mile; Knick’s Honor wins Canterbury Derby

Canterbury Park’s 2025 horse of the meet Frosty View raced alone on the lead at 3 to 1 odds to win the $50,000 Brooks Fields Mile Saturday evening at the Shakopee, Minn. racetrack. Frosty View was up by four lengths over the field but that lead diminished as Tonka Warrior, the wagering choice, made a late rush inside the sixteenth pole only to come up a head short at the wire. The Brooks Fields Mile was one of four $50,000 one-mile turf stakes that made up the annual Northern Stars Turf Festival.

Frosty View is owned by Charlene Gabler and is trained by Joel Berndt. Luis Fuentes was aboard. “One of the riders said he was going to go with me,” Fuentes said.  I said ‘good luck, I don’t think you have that kind of speed.’” Frosty View paid $8.00 to win. Silent Runner was third.

Wrigleyville

Earlier on the card, 5-year-old mare Wrigleyville won the Lady Canterbury Stakes by a neck over Salty Senorita. Jockey Keiber Coa was in town to ride for trainer Thomas Proctor and owner Glen Hill Farm.

“We were able to get a perfect stalking trip,” Coa said. “She relaxed really well on the backside. I knew I had the leader. As soon as I asked her she responded well.” Thunders Rocknroll set the pace but finished fourth. Just Ruthless ran third.

Essential Lady won the Curtis Sampson Oaks under Emmanuel Esquivel for trainer Jonathon Thomas and owner Ranlo Investments LLC. She paid $5.60.  Tamarack was second at 31 to 1 odds and Mendelssohns Comet was third.

The Canterbury Derby went to locally-based 3-year-old Knick’s Honor and trainer Lynn Rarick. Eduardo Gallardo rode the winner for owners Ray Huelsman and Keith Anderson. He paid $3.80 as
