Four Days of Racing Ahead

Bulldog Races May 25

Memorial Day weekend at Canterbury Park is going to be anything but dull. With live horse racing making its way back into full swing, the annual running of the bulldogs, and the Honor the Hero stakes, it will be a holiday weekend to remember.

Live racing begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night and continues through Monday. Post times for the rest of the weekend begin at 12:45 p.m.

Singer Mark Sweigert will be honoring the true meaning of Memorial Day with his performance of the U.S. National Anthem in addition to “God Bless America.”

The featured race of the weekend is the Honor the Hero stakes, which is a five-furlong turf race for three year olds and up. Jockeys, owners, trainers, and horses will be eagerly competing for a purse of $75,000.

The annual Running of the Bulldogs is set to take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th between live horse races. It will consist of four separate heats with ten to eleven contestants in each race. This year there will also be a championship race, which will consist of the top three bulldogs from each of the four heats. Bulldogs from all over Minnesota are anxiously waiting for their time to shine and to show off their athletic talent in hopes of earning Canterbury’s first true championship title.

This fun-filled weekend at Canterbury Park is sure to be a “had to be there” experience and will perhaps be the most exciting Memorial Day weekend yet.
