Four Day Race Weeks Return —– Belmont Block Party Saturday

Canterbury Park

Beginning Thursday, Canterbury Park begins racing four days each week through the end of August. Thursday marks the return of the popular “Buck Night” promotion that offers $1 admission and other $1, $2 and $3 food and beverage specials. Post time on Thursdays and Fridays will be 6:30 p.m. with weekend racing beginning at 12:45 p.m.

Canterbury will simulcast the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. American Pharoah, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, will attempt to win this 1 1/2 mile race and join 11 other Triple Crown champions, accomplishing a feat unseen since Affirmed swept the series in 1978. Post time for the Belmont is 5:50 p.m. Advance wagering on the Belmont begins Thursday. There will also be live music throughout the day by Boogie Wonderland as part of the “Belmont Block Party” which also features local food vendors (Mr. Pig Stuff, Taco Loco and more) and the ever-popular food trucks. The 10-race live card is highlighted by two $75,000 stakes: The Brooks Fields and the Minnesota H.B.P.A Distaff.   Race Book doors open at 9:00 a.m.

Exceptions to the summer schedule include a 4:00 p.m. post on July 3 with fireworks following the races, a 6:30 p.m. post on Saturdays, Aug. 1,8,15, and 22, and Aug. 29, Mystic Lake Derby Day, with a 4:00 p.m. start time.

In September, racing will be conducted Sept. 3 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6 with the final three days of the live meet Sept. 10-12.
