Dickey Bob Favored To Win Fourth Bob Morehouse

Quarter horse racing returns Memorial Day Monday to Canterbury Park with a pair of races highlighted by the $35,000 Bob Morehouse Stakes. The field of 10 in this 350 yard dash, all Minnesota breds, includes three promising 3-year-olds as well as older runners with credentials but none more accomplished than 6-year-old Dickey Bob. The multiple stakes winner, owned

Jason Olmstead

and bred by Lunderborg LLC, has earned $262,136 and compiled a record of 31-16-4-1. Dickey Bob, trained by six-time champion trainer Jason Olmstead, is attempting to win the Bob Morehouse for the fourth consecutive year. Luis Valenzuela was along for the ride last year and has the mount Monday.

Dickey Bob has not raced since March 11    [ https://www.remingtonpark.com/replays/ race 10 ] at Remington Park when he was declared a non-starter due to an issue in the starting gate. He has one bullet work since at 220 yards on May 13 in Oklahoma.

“If he leaves, he’ll be tough,” owner Bruce Lunderborg said. “I don’t think he’s lost anything. I watched his workout. He’s got it.”  It’s rare to find a horse that wins the same stake race three times in a row and favored for a fourth. “It’s a freak deal,” Lunderborg said.

Corona White Sox won the Minnesota Futurity last year and does have a start at Remington but faces older horses for the first time. The 3-year-old is owned and bred by Dan Kjorsvik who also owns hook-race star Holy Storm who is entered at Remington Saturday but also entered in the Morehouse. Nik Goodwin, the statistical leader in all-time wins and purse earning at Canterbury, will ride Corona White Sox.

Western Reserve was favored in the Minnesota Futurity, losing by a head to Corona White Sox. The filly makes her first start since that defeat. She is trained by Hall of Famer Edward Ross Hardy.

Alex Canchari is not known for riding quarter horses, he has just three such mounts in his career, but has the call on Living in the Past for trainer Brayan Velazquez.

Ry Eikleberry, second in historical quarter horse wins and purse earnings, has a mount in each quarter horse race as does Kelsi Harr.

The Morehouse is race nine on the 10-race program that has a first post time of 5:00 pm.
