Dickey Bob beats younger brother in Skip Zimmerman

All-time leading state bred purse earner boosts bankroll to $380,250

Seven-year-old Minnesota bred quarter horse Dickey Bob beat his 4-year-old full brother Jess Rocket Man by one-half length in the $28,000 Skip Zimmerman Memorial Stakes on Thursday at Canterbury Park. Both are trained by leading trainer Jason Olmstead and are owned and were bred by Lunderborg LLC. Ramiro Garcia was aboard the winner while top quarter horse jockey Edwin Escobedo rode the runner-up.

The final time of 17.359 seconds for 350 yards was .006 seconds off the track record set by Jess Rocket Man when the two met on July 14 in the Bob Morehouse Stakes. That night Dickey Bob finished second. His purse earnings total of $380,250 is the most ever by a Minnesota bred quarter horse.

Finishing third in the Zimmerman was Shes Already Famous, also trained by Olmstead. Dickey Bob returned $5.20 for a $2 wager.
