Canterbury Stable Area Open for Business (4/12/2008)

April 12

The stable area at Canterbury opened this morning. It felt more like closing day of 1991 than mid-April ’08.

The training track will be available on Sunday and the main track should be ready for use by Monday.Trainer Troy Bethke had a vanload of horses from his winter base in Arkansas waiting for the gates to swing open. Bethke, a fixture in Shakopee and a two-time leading trainer, settled into his barn for the upcoming 67-day meet which begins on May 3.
With Oaklawn Park closing this weekend, several trainers should ship north this week to begin training. While official workouts will be recorded soon don’t expect to see them published until the racing office personnel is in place and has all the horses are entered into the system.
