The Bank of America Challenge Championships, featuring top quarter horses from around the country, will be held Saturday at Los Alamitos. First post for the 10-race card that offers more than $1.1 million in purses is 8:00 p.m. central. Watch and wager at Canterbury Park.
Canterbury Park is well-represented at the Challenge Championships by horses that ran in Shakopee this summer.
Fowl Play, trained by Bob Johnson, and Tres Sea, trained by Randy Weidner, run in The Wrangler Stakes (Race 1).
Although Send Me This Wagon did not race at Canterbury this year, she has Canterbury connections of Stacy Charette-Hill and jockey Jorge Torres and did win a stake race here in 2015. She runs in race 2, the AQHA Members Plus Stakes.
Faster Than Hasta, another Johnson charge, is entered in race 8, the $151,250 John Deere Juvenile Challenge. The 2-year-old won the Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity this summer and went on to Prairie Meadows to capture their Juvenile Challenge. He will be ridden by Stormy Smith.
The final race on the card is the $353,500 Bank of America Challenge Championship, a Grade 1 event at 440 yards. Three horses that appeared here this summer are entered in this field of 12.
AJs High – a multiple graded stakes winner that was victorious in the Canterbury Championship Challenge in July. He is trained by Charlton Hunt and will be ridden by Stormy Smith.
Tempting Valor – a Charette-Hill / Torres production that won the Skip Zimmerman in June.
Fansty Pants – a Weidner trainee in deep water here as she was defeated by both AJs High and Tempting Valor this summer at Canterbury.
