Canterbury Park and American Red Cross have teamed up to encourage blood donations during the month of August. To thank donors who help ensure a strong blood supply this month, those who give at select metro-area Red Cross mobile blood drives through August 31 will receive a free admission ticket to horse racing at Canterbury Park, while supplies last.
Right now, the Red Cross has an emergency need for lifesaving blood amid the ongoing severe blood shortage this summer. There are more than 180 Red Cross mobile blood drives scheduled in August across the metro-area. Donations from these drives will potentially help thousands of patients in need of lifesaving blood products.
“We are pleased to team up with the Red Cross in this important effort during a time when the need for blood is so great,” Canterbury Park CEO Randy Sampson said. “Canterbury Park and its employees take pride in giving back to the community and this is another way that we can make a contribution.”
Blood donations continue to be critical to meet hospital demand and the public is urged to make an appointment to give now. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially type O. Donors who give now will help stock the shelves as summer winds down.
Donors can schedule an appointment to give blood by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). When scheduling, donors should look for participating blood drives that are offering this Canterbury Park admission ticket offer in the online scheduling donor message.
Canterbury Park has a long tradition of charitable giving and is committed to continuing that legacy into the future. As a 16-year member of the Minnesota Keystone Program, Canterbury Park has pledged to return up to five percent of pre-tax profits to the community annually. The Shakopee, Minn. entertainment facility conducts live horse racing each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday through Sept. 16.
