2007 Horse of the Meet Back in Action at Oaklawn
Canterbury Park’s 2007 Horse of the Meet, Run With Joy, is scheduled to make her 2008 debut on Sunday afternoon in the eighth race of the afternoon. The $42k allowance race is carded at the distance of six furlongs for fillies and mares, four-year-old and up. Run With Joy is trained by Harold Williams for Frances Genter Williams, of Bloomington, MN, and is 8-1 on the morning line. Eddie Razo, Jr., the current leader in the 2008 Oaklawn Jockey Standings, has the call. Run With Joy was named the Horse of the Meet after winning three of her four local starts in 2007, including the Frances Genter Stakes and the Minnesota Oaks. Run With Joy has won nearly $115,000 from nine lifetime starts. Dimple Pinch, the 2006 and 2007 Dean Kutz Stakes Champion, is also entered in the Sunday feature.
Lookinforthesecret Finds his Groove at Tampa Bay Downs
Other Canterbury horses have excelled since leaving Shakopee on circuits throughout the nation. Most notably, Lookinforthesecret has continued to run huge races at Tampa Bay Downs for trainer Jamie Ness and owner Balkrisna Sukharan, of Blaine, MN. The six-year-old has put together another winning streak having won his last three races. Most recently, he captured the $65k Pelican Stakes on January 12 and the $75k Super Stakes on February 9. Lookinforthesecret has now passed the $300,000 mark in career earnings and has won five stakes races since being claimed early in 2007.
Novogratz and Robertson Finding Success at Oaklawn
Joseph Novogratz, resident of Excelsior, MN, has been winning a substantial number of races since turning over some of his horses to Canterbury Park’s leading trainer Mac Robertson. Novogratz and Robertson teemed up to win three races at Oaklawn this weekend. Pro Pink, who is graded stakes placed, won a second-level allowance race on Thursday. Impressive Canterbury Park maiden-breaker, Esperamos, absolutely dominated the featured race on Friday afternoon, and Sweet Motion broke her maiden on Saturday.
Esperamos came into Mac Robertson’s care during the 2007 Canterbury Meet and has been nothing short of sensational since. Since his arrival, Esperamos is undefeated winning five consecutive times and currently holds the fastest six furlong time of the 2008 Oaklawn meeting. He stopped the clocks on Friday in 1:09.00. Look for Esperamos to be entered in a stakes race in the near future, he certainly possesses enough ability.Andrew Offerman
