NOMOREWINEFOREDDIE WINS KENNY SCHOEPF STAKES

Nomorewineforeddie, ridden by Ry Eikleberry, won the $25,000 Kenny Schoepf Stakes by three lengths on Saturday at Canterbury Park. Trained by Bruce Riecken for owner Anthony Didier of David City, NE, the 3-year-old Minnesota bred colt has won two stakes at Canterbury this summer and earned $64,955 in his eight race career.

Nomorewineforeddie broke alertly from the starting gate, and battled early to the inside of Suddenly Silver and jockey Dean Butler. Eikleberry took back, allowing Suddenly Silver to take the lead, and then swung off the rail to the outside. Nomorewineforeddie took the lead coming out of the turn and drew off. “I just let him (Butler) go. I knew we’d catch him.” Eikleberry said. A rainstorm passed through Shakopee prior to the race and left the track wet. “I figured we would run better on the outside of the track after the rain.” Nomorewineforeddie paid $4.60 to win.

Wally’s Choice closed to finish second under Paul Nolan. Suddenly Silver finished third. Final time for the 6 ½ furlongs was 1:16.06. The race was restricted to Minnesota bred colts and geldings.
