Kara visits with members of the racing community to learn about their superstitions and quirks.
Kara stops by the racing office and explains the condition book. The condition book, generally printed every few weeks, is issued by racing secretary Rob Junk and sets forth conditions of races to be run on each live race day. Knowing in advance which races and distances will be offered allows a trainer to to prepare the horses for those races. Entries are taken for each race day at least 72 hours in advance. For example, Saturday’s entries are taken on Wednesday and Thursday’s entries are taken on Saturday. This page on the Canterbury website is where to find the current condition book.
