Canterbury’s barn area will show signs of life beginning tomorrow when Lt. Mark Ott swings the stable gate open at 6am to allow horsemen to enter. A slow but steady migration of horses and workers will continue for next month as summer visitors arrive from throughout the country.
While you never know for sure until they pull through the gate, there are a number of new or familiar names on the stall application list.
Mike Chambers, who winters at Turf Paradise and wins at a 40% clip, is expected here this summer.
James Cook, absent last year, will have stalls.
Valerie Lund has been gone for a few years but will ship up from Phoenix with graded stakes winner Atta Boy Roy in tow.
Tony Rengstorf, a regular here is the 80s and 90s will be on site, training a majority of the Sampson horses.
The main track will open for training April 29.
