Opportunities Galore at Canterbury

Crowd Shot 6-16-13_2Everyone needs cash around the holidays. Canterbury Park has the answer.

With the cold snap stretching through the weekend, spending an afternoon at the racetrack hunkered down with the Daily Racing Form is a solid option. Take a long look at Sunday. Not only is there racing from top tracks across the country but also a free shot at $5,000 in the weekly Perfect Pick football contest.

There are nine noon NFL games. Winning the $5,000 requires selecting the winner of each game straight up plus deciding if the Minnesota/Baltimore total will be over or under 42.5 points. The prize pool is divvied up when there are multiple entrants selecting all 10 correctly. If there are no perfect slates, and it has been a few weeks without a winner, the pool carries to the following Sunday and another $1,000 is added.

Entry deadline is noon. Beer and hotdog specials from 11am-3pm. Watch all the games.

Canterbury’s Final Horse Player World Series Satellite

The final qualifying contest is Saturday, December 14. The winner heads to Las Vegas in March 2014 to play in The Orleans Hotel & Casino Horse Player World Series. Top prize in that event is in the neighborhood of $300,000. The winner of the December 14 event receives airfare, accommodations for four nights at The Orleans, and entry to the World Series.

Canterbury’s format: 10 $2 Win/Place wagers on 10 horses from any races run between 11am and 5:30pm. Entry fee is $100 plus $40 live bankroll for the 10 wagers. All entry fees will be paid back in the form of Horse Player World Series entry or cash. The winner is the player amassing the largest bankroll from the 10 wagers.

Resulting bankrolls from the 10 wagers are returned once the contest is official.

Don’t forget that December 26 is opening day at Santa Anita and the first 200 horseplayers to arrive at the Canterbury Race Book receive a complimentary 2014 Santa Anita wall calendar.

Looking ahead to the New Year, mark Saturday, February 1 on the calendar as the first day of the annual Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest. The free-to-enter contest is offered every Saturday through the Kentucky Derby with prizes awarded each week to the most accomplished players and overall prizes at the conclusion to the most consistent.
