It All Leads to This

Dedicated, hard-working, horse racing fanatics: All words that could be used to describe Breakaway Stable. A group of Canterbury Racing Club alum formed Breakaway Stable to carry on traditions, memories, and their love for horse racing.

Breakaway Stable’s 10 members have been coming to Canterbury Park as customers for more than 30 years, whether to carry out a family tradition or to simply become more involved in the racing industry.

It was not an easy road to get to where they are today, though. After being a part of the Racing Club for about eight years, the members decided that they wanted a more personal experience with horses. That is when they formed the CAC Racing partnership which raced for a few years until the end of last season when the 34 Alumni members were horseless and disbanded. A handful of people who truly loved horse racing and wanted to continue the tradition were left disappointed and wanting more action. So, they created Breakaway Stable.

Ten people, one dream: to own and win with a racehorse.

That is just what Randy and Camy Dusich, Darlene Blossom, Tim Skaar, Jim and Cindy Wiste, brothers Walt and Pierre LaCasse, Amanda Giliotti, and Ted Grevelis pursue.

Horse racing is something that takes a great deal of knowledge to understand. “The industry is so intriguing. I truly learn something new every day,” said Randy Dusich. “That is what makes it fun and interesting.”

At the moment, Breakaway Stable has one horse, One Bet From Even. The perfect name for owner Skaar who has been betting on the races since 1985 when pari-mutuel horse racing was first introduced to Minnesota.

Member Ted Grevelis said they hope to own more in the upcoming years to expand their stable.

Watch out for Breakaway Stable, with this much passion they will be hard to beat.
