Horse Player World Series Satellite
Qualify for the Horse Player World Series this Saturday at Canterbury in a $100 entry-fee satellite contest. Contestants make 10 mythical $2 win/place wagers in 10 races of choice until approximately 5:30 pm. Rules and a list of contest-eligible races are HERE. For each 20 entrants, one player wins an entry to the HPWS in Las Vegas in late March along with airfare and accommodations at the host casino The Orleans. Top prize in the HPWS in Vegas usually exceeds $300,000.
In The Money Contest
There were no winners last Saturday in the In The Money Contest so the prize pool carries over to this Saturday and will be a minimum of $850. The contest track is Tampa Bay Downs, which begins at 11:25 AM. Entry to the contest is $10 and the object is to select a horse in each of Tampa’s 10 races that finishes in the top three. One entry per person and all entries must be submitted before racing begins.
Simulcast Schedule for the Holiday Week
A reminder that there will be no simulcast racing Dec. 24 or 25. Simulcasting is offered Dec. 23 and then returns Friday, Dec. 26, which is opening day at Santa Anita. Friday’s Daily Racing Form will be available at Canterbury valet Dec. 23 (late afternoon), 24 and 25 during business hours.
2015 Stakes Schedule
The 2015 thoroughbred stakes schedule was released this week and is comprised of 24 races and $1.825 million in purses. Highlights of the 70-day race meet include the 22nd Minnesota Festival of Champions, a day of racing reserved for horses bred in the state, Sunday, Sept. 6 with $400,000 in purse money, and the $200,000 Mystic Lake Derby, the largest single-race purse on the stakes schedule, Sunday, Aug. 23.
The Minnesota Derby and Minnesota Oaks, both scheduled for Aug. 8, will offer $80,000 purses, the largest for these restricted Minnesota-bred races since the late 1980s. In 1988 Princess Elaine won the Minnesota Oaks, then an $80,000 race, with Chris Valovich aboard. The Minnesota Derby offered $80,000 in 1988 and ’89. Blair’s Cove, the all-time leading Minnesota-bred money earner won the race in ’88 and A Nice Lark won in ’89.
