Governor Tim Walz Appoints Goodman, Gingold and Idelkope to Minnesota Racing Commission

The Minnesota Racing Commission announced in a press release earlier this week that Gov. Tim Walz reappointed Commissioners Lisa Goodman and Alan Gingold  for six year terms beginning November 24, 2019. Walz also appointed Julie Idelkope to the MRC.

Acting Commission Chair James Lane has been designated as the Chair of the Commission.

Per the MRC news release, Lisa Goodman was first appointed to the Racing Commission in

March 2014. She now chairs the Racing Commission’s Administrative Affairs and Racehorse Retirement Committees. Goodman also represents the seventh ward on the Minneapolis City Council and serves on several boards throughout the state. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Political Science and Labor Relations.

Alan Gingold also became a Commissioner in March 2014 and chairs

the Racing Commission’s Finance Committee. He has a Master of Science degree in Finance and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Gingold is the Chief Financial Officer and a shareholder of

Lorenz Bus Service which he and another shareholder acquired in 1994.

Julie Idelkope

Julie Idelkope was appointed as a new commissioner for the Racing Commission. She will hold a spot on the Commission’s Administrative Affairs Committee. Idelkope received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Minnesota and was named a Policy Fellow at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. She has over 20 years of experience in corporate government affairs and as a state and local public official. “Commissioner Idelkope’s familiarity with legislative process will be helpful to the Racing Commission,” said Executive Director Tom DiPasquale.

Commissioner Jerry Bell will be retiring at the end of this year and will conclude his work with the Racing Commission at the next Full Commission meeting on December 19, 2019. Commission Chairman Jim Lane said, “The commission has benefited from Jerry Bell’s wisdom, community stature, and business experience on a wide range of policy and regulatory matters since 2015. We will miss his wise counsel and friendship.”
