Stall applications for Canterbury Park’s upcoming racing season are due to the racing office by Tuesday, April 2. The 54-day meet will run May 18 through Sept. 28. Per-race overnight purse payments have increased on average by 10 percent for both thoroughbred and quarter horse races. More than $10 million in purse money is expected to be awarded during the meet with thoroughbred purses averaging $23,000 per race and quarter horse purses $15,000.
Applications for the Pre-Paid Starter Incentive program are also due Tuesday. An approved incentive could pay as much as $37,500 per trainer. The pre-paid incentive would be earned in full if designated horses each make a minimum of four starts during the season. Canterbury’s backstretch opens May 1.
