Jockey Alex Canchari, currently tied atop the leader board with Ry Eikleberry, received a seven calendar day suspension for careless riding, causing interference in the eighth race on August 16 which resulted in the disqualification of his mount Hot Damon from 5th to 6th position. The suspension, issued Wednesday by the state stewards, runs from August 23 through August 29.
Eikleberry and Canchari each have 49 wins while last year’s leading rider Dean Butler has 46.
Eikleberry will be in New Mexico Saturday riding several mounts at Albuquerque Downs.
