Alex Canchari Injured In Santa Anita Spill

Jockey Alex Canchari of Shakopee, Minn. was injured Friday when his mount, Scene Queen, clipped heels and fell in the seventh race at Santa Anita.

Alex made this statement in a Facebook post Friday evening:

“Sorry to tell everyone but I had a bad accident today at Santa Anita. I broke my collar bone and ribs and have collapses lungs. There’s air bubbles on my heart so I’m having surgery in the morning. God bless everyone it could have been worse thank The Lord I can still walk.”

 

Canchari finished second in the jockey standings at Canterbury Park this year.

 

UPDATE

Alex underwent surgery Saturday. According to his brother Patrick, a plate and screws were used to stabilize Alex’s collarbone and doctors were monitoring progress regarding his collapsed lungs. It is expected he will be in hospital for a few days.
