Foxy Cowgirl won the $38,148 Grade 3 Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge for trainer Ed Ross Hardy and owners Paul Luedemann, Corey Wilmes and Cole Morehead Thursday at Canterbury Park. Angel Ramirez rode the 4-year-old covered 400 yards in 19.903 seconds, winning easily by 2 1/2 lengths. As the wagering favorite Foxy Cowgirl returned $4.40 to win.

Sendmecandyandarose, trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, finished second and Five Bar Fantasy, trained by Jerry Livingston was third in the six-horse field.

The Iowa-bred stakes winner had not raced since May 10 at Remington Park. She had one workout over the Canterbury surface on July 11.

“She always does well off the layoff,” Hardy said. “That’s something we started last year.”

Foxy Cowgirl has now won six of 12 starts and $168,203 in purses.
