Spring Tune Up Super Satellites begin Thursday
In The Money Contest Force-Out on Saturday
Jack Rassier’s final mythical bankroll of $119.80 was $8.20 better than Bill Ender, allowing Rassier to qualify for the $3 million National Horseplayers Championship held in Las Vegas this August. The Chaska, Minn. handicapper won a coveted entry to NHC, his first, as well as airfare and accommodations. Bill Ender received $500 for second. Dave Handeland finished third earning a single Canterbury Handicapper of the Year point while Rassier received three and Ender two.
The entrants made mythical $2 win place bets on 10 races of choice and five mandatory races on Saturday. Rassier’s biggest hit was the eighth race at Fair Grounds where winner was a capped $42 win and $14.80 place payout.
Contest players will have a chance to win a NHC berth for 2022 when the free-to-enter Road to Kentucky Contest begins January 30. The 14-week event offers weekly and overall prize money but also the top three players each week and top eight in overall cumulative scoring receive entry to an exclusive grand prize contest that will send the winner to the NHC.

In The Money Contest concludes Saturday as well with a forced out prize pool. The entry fee is $10 and contest track is Santa Anita. Players select one horse in each race. To stay alive that horse must finish top three in the final running order. The player(s) that last the longest wins the pool which is guaranteed to be at least $350.
Minnesota-bred filly wins Silverbulletday Stakes
Charlie’s Penny won Saturday’s $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds in New Orleans, under jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. for trainer Chris Block.
The Minnesota-bred 3-year-old filly is owned and was bred by Bob Lothenbach, Canterbury’s leading owner is 2020. She paid $20.40 in the 3 ¼ length victory over a 1 mile 70 yard distance. Charlie’s Penny earned 10 points towards qualifying for the Kentucky Oaks and is ninth overall.
Block has indicated she will take the next step in Fair Grounds’ 3-year-old old filly series, the Rachel Alexandra Stakes, a Grade 2 route offering a $300,000 purse on Feb. 13.
