The free-to -enter Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest motors along Saturday, July 4 with a stop at Los Alamitos Race Course, host of the Los Alamitos Derby, a $150,000 grade 3 event at nine furlongs.
First post and thus contest entry deadline is 3 p.m. for the nine-race Independence Day program.
The Los Al Derby did not attract the attention a Derby points race normally would with only 10 nominations and just five entering including Robert Lewis winner Thousand Words and BC Juvenile runner-up Anneau d’Or.
The card also includes the Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes.

There will be plenty of room but this makes your check-in process quicker. You will also get your Road to Kentucky entry card at the reception desk in the main lobby where you check in.
New Leader In Handicapper of the Year Contest
Ray Hassan was victorious in last week’s R2K contest. He earned $200 and three Handicapper of the Year
points which put the 2013 champion on the lead in the 2020 standings. Each week points are awarded to the top three R2K players. Handicapper of the Year points accumulate toward and end of the year title and a $2,000 payday.
The contest track last Saturday was Thistledown. Prices were short early until late in the card when a series of longshots won paying $50, $49 and $31. The $31 winner was in the double-point Ohio Derby. While it was not a traditional R2K track, the pools were huge and that pick three series including those bombs went un-hit while the pick four that ended in the next race paid $57,000.
